Melopoeus albostriatus and Cyriopagopus albostriatus refer to the same tarantula, commonly known as the Thai Zebra or Purple Zebra Earth Tiger. The different names come from changes in tarantula taxonomy over time.
This species was first described in 1886 as Selenocosmia albostriata, later moved to Melopoeus, then reclassified as Haplopelma in the 1990s. In 2015, it was moved into Cyriopagopus, but newer research has restored Melopoeus as the accepted genus, making Melopoeus albostriatus the current name.
